Today the dollies are pretending they’re in New Mexico.  Whether historic or contemporary, here are the girls in the collections of Josefina and Saige.

And because it’s awesome, how ’bout a photo from a real trip to New Mexico (October 2013):

I got 3 new dollies today!  I thought about giving each of them a separate post, but for now decided to introduce you to all of them right now.

Meet Maria, Gwen, and Marta!

Let’s start with Marta.  She’s from Spain!  A company called Paola Reina, which just opened up sales in North America.  They pride themselves on being entirely European-made.  I’ve been admiring Marta for a few months now, and all the dolls in the Las Reinas de Paola line.  Marta is my favorite because of her adorable freckles!

And she is gorgeous.  It was looking a little dicey when I got her out of the shipping box:

Yeah.  Her face is under there somewhere.  And her shoe is supposed to be on her foot.  I actually had to sew a button back on the shoe so it would stay on.  I wonder how long my sewing skills will hold up.

I got her out of the box, tidied up her hair, took off the heavy fur pieces (maybe she’ll put them back when winter rolls around), and got her outside for a lovely photo:

I didn’t buy Marta immediately because she is so big!  Check out this photo of her making Karito Kids Lulu look tiny.  Until today, Lulu was my tallest doll.

So I bought Marta a friend.  She’s a My Twinn doll and I named her Maria.  My Twinn has switched from the larger 24 inch dolls to 18 inch dolls that can wear American Girl clothes, but they have a few of the big dolls left called “Adopt a Friend”.  You have to flip through about 60 pages of dolly mugshots to choose your Friend.  I think I ended up with the one who looks the least like me.

She’s a bit weird, with huge shoulders:

Watch her dwarf poor Addy:

She even makes Australian Girl Sheila, who I affectionately call Fattie because of her thick arms and legs, look small:

But her face is lovely, and I can tell she and Marta will be great friends:

Last but not least, is Gwen!

Gwen is my 32nd American Girl doll, which means I now have all of them.  Every historical character.  Every Girl of the Year.  Every doll with a name.  I have them all.

Gwen is one of Chrissa’s best friends.  I didn’t buy her when she was first out because back in 2009 I only had 9 American Girl dolls, and I already had 2 with blond hair and brown eyes (Julie and Kailey).  31 dolls later, and I still only have those 2 with blond hair and brown eyes.  I now have 9 dolls with blond hair: 3 brown-eyed, 3 blue-eyed, 2 hazel-eyed, and 1 green-eyed.  Gwen is only my 5th doll with bangs (or more if you count Lanie, Lindsey, and Nellie’s wispy bangs, but I don’t).   Now is a great time for Gwen to join my dolly family.  I’m so glad she’s here!

Beautiful Lulu

Lulu is probably the most beautiful doll I have, but the soccer outfit she came in is kinda lame. She’s been trying on clothes around the house lately, and she’s finally found something she likes. She’s tall and slender, so most things around here are not a good fit for her. This is Ile de Passage from Maplelea. Even the shoes fit!

Green Team is the name of a Taryn outfit (that Alexi is wearing today), but it is also the name I have given to the Maplelea Girls today, because they’re all wearing green.

I imagine you’ve already heard that Cecile and Marie-Grace are retiring this fall.  In the meantime, most of their stuff has been going for about half price on American Girl’s website.  I started with Cecile’s Parlor Desk and Marie-Grace’s vanity, and a few weeks later the bed was on sale too!  That’s when I reached the “I have most of their collection” point.  So I grabbed the retired Courtyard Furniture and Glassware off ebay, and the lacy parasol and fancy boots will be arriving later this week.  Add the crinoline that lives at my mom’s house, and I will have everything from their collection!  Time for photos!

Mia and Chrissa in their fancy outfits.  The piano is not part of their collection, but I’m pretending Mia is taking a lesson from Madame Oceane!

New furniture.  Felicity and Saige in parlor outfits at the parlor desk.  Elizabeth at the vanity getting ready for bed in Marie-Grace’s nightgown.  Julie on the bed in Cecile’s nightgown.  Backdrop is Samantha’s bedroom.

McKenna in Marie-Grace’s summer outfit and Kit in Cecile’s summer outfit with my new courtyard furniture, glassware and treats.  I need a cute backdrop for this scene.  I might make one with one of my New Orleans photos.

Nellie, Caroline and Argos.

If you’re at all on the fence, I’d swipe up these items before they disappear.  I don’t think nice wooden furniture will be around much longer as American Girl gets more Mattel-ified.  Marie-Grace and Cecile’s collection was around for just 3 years; will we be losing Caroline next year?  I hope I’m wrong.

This morning I had inventory at work. It always stresses me out, so I’m so glad it’s over. Since I was doing inventory at work I decided to do a little dolly inventory at my house. I had bags and boxes all over the place, so I wanted to do some consolidating. I took a couple photos of different sets so I would remember what came with each set. I thought it would be nice to share these snapshots with you.

Sunglasses and Purse, 2013.  Free with purchase of all 3 mix-and-match sets last fall.

Breakfast in Bed set, bought on Cyper Monday 2012.  Includes tray, plate with waffles, syrup, smoothie, milk, napkin, and note.  Original set had a fork; Discounted Cyber Monday set did not.

Sweet Dreams Set.  Store exclusive purchase.  Mini coconut, slippers, headband.

Sweet treats set.  2007 or so.  2 ice cream bowls, 2 drinks, 2 spoons, napkins and holder, order pad, placemats.  Thanks to A Girl for All Time Matilda for modeling, and Clementine is doing a lovely job holding the spoon on the right.

Fall Party Treats 2012.  2 drinks, 2 slices, pie, 1 bowl of candy, tray, party bags and stickers for bags

Chanukah Gift Set 2012. Menorah, candles, dreidel, gelt, blue pouch, bracelet, box

Unboxing these and adding the pieces to accessory boxes I already had started got rid of a whole shopping bag full of boxes.  Another shopping bag was full of clothing still in boxes!  One set of Bitty Twin outfits and a bunch of pajamas.  It feels good to consolidate storage.  I also organized my clothing by character so I will be able to find specific outfits quickly, rather than combing through all the outfits every time I dress dollies.

Zelia and I have matching jackets. It’s World Cup time, so it seemed fitting to wear it.

And I’ll add a couple photos of Zelia at the beach:
